Destination weddings are becoming more popular compared to the traditional hometown wedding we are accustomed to. Basically, a destination wedding is when you decide to forego a ceremony in a local hometown setting and have your wedding in an exotic or vacation type location, along with the rest of the wedding party. While this may sound good for some people, there are a few things that you will want to consider before deciding on this wedding alternative.
First, if a traditional celebration is your ideal of a wedding, then a destination wedding may not be for you. Destination weddings are typically more laid back, less formal, and more casual.
Second, a destination wedding kind of throws all the traditional rules out the window. Sure, you will still need your license and an official. But, all the traditions like the groom seeing the bride before the ceremony are pretty much out the window. Typically, you are going to be on location prior to the event so you are going to be spending time with your future spouse so it is hard to adhere to some of these traditions.
Third, you have to consider that anyone you need in the wedding, you will probably have to foot the bill for them to get there. Otherwise, you are going to have to find local people to perform wedding ceremonies or perform different wedding functions. If you plan on having a wedding party, then that is kind of a case by case thing as to whether you will be paying the expenses of them getting there or not.
Fourth, and this is a good one, you can often save money on decorations like flowers for a destination wedding. The reason is because the destination is usually a beautiful venue where you do not have to spend the extra money on things like flowers and other decorations.
Fifth, you will have longer to celebrate with a destination wedding. A traditional wedding lasts a few hours. However, a destination wedding can last for several days and can even end up becoming your honeymoon.
Lastly, and this may surprise you, destination weddings are typically less expensive than your traditional at-home wedding. There are so many expenses that are involved in a traditional that you do not need for a destination wedding. Your biggest expense in a destination wedding will probably be getting the people there that you elect to pay to get there.
Destination weddings are a great alternative to tying the knot with your significant other. That can create lasting memories that a traditional wedding can also provide. You just need to be aware of some of the differences before making the decision to have a destination wedding.
