Top 3 Wedding Trends of this Year

This year wedding trends carry a common theme – personality and individual style. Brides want their wedding to reflect not only current trends but their own taste. As always, attention to detail is what makes the event special and the couple stand out. Even when they seem like the same old, there are unique unexpected twists in wedding trends this year. Don’t plan a wedding without reading these suggestions.

Whether you’re a wedding planner or a DIY bride, watch these 3 trends:

1. All white wedding cakes.

This year white wedding cakes that have a classic look are popular right now. Even off-white is popular in simple lines. To pull in some color, add an interesting flower, ribbon or detail. It will really pop against a white backdrop.

Our choice? A few red zinnias that really pop.

2. Wedding candy buffet.

This trend continues to be popular and is practically timeless. Use different shaped clear bowls, martini glasses and containers full of candy. Buy a candy in bulk that fits the color scheme of your wedding. Tie bows around the tall glass vases. Make each a different height so they are staggered. There are 2 approaches to this. Either display all of the candy in one place or disperse on each table so guests can sample candy from each table as they mingle and talkcor and on centerpieces. Add a scoop and bags so guests can take some candy home with them. How much candy do you need? It depends on the size and how many containers, but as a general rule we suggest 1/2 lb. per person.

Our choice? If the white is the theme, find white candy in bulk. Then find containers of all heights and sizes to fill with candy. White jelly beans, white gummy bears, and white salt water taffy complete the look. Then bunch the fabric on the table and arrange flowers to complete the look.

3. Photo booths – with a personal twist.

Just getting a professional photographer won’t give the desired look – today’s bride is adding scenery and props. Have different backdrops (like a sheet of fabric). Bring props like feather boas, hats or fake mustaches. Or, try a vintage look. Find a candy that matches the theme – so if it’s a beach wedding, choose tropical flavored candy – coconut, pineapple, and tutti fruit!

Our suggestion – Rather than posed photos, be sure guests can use their own imagination and bring home a memento from your wedding. Encourage them to pull out their cell phones and snap their own photos and then add them to your online photo album or email them to the couple. Then use the pictures for a photo album memory book or upload them to a site like Photobucket or Flickr. No need for a guest book when you have pictures of the guests!

Again, pay attention to small details because these are what set your wedding apart from the rest and make it uniquely yours. This is what creates lasting memories. These elements add to the wedding by giving everything a personal touch. Everything should reflect who you are as a couple.
