Modern Bridal Rules

Most would argue that equality is important. And there is no doubt that this also applies in wedding. What once considered being proper behavior may not actually be proper for modern couples. Common bridal etiquette even started from the Elizabethan and Renaissance eras that are mostly considered old and out of date. Here are just some wedding civilities that has also been changed to fit today’s lifestyle and personal circumstances:

1. Wedding vows. The mandatory phrase for the bride to €honor and obey€ has now been changed with different alternatives to show equality in the relationship. Modern couples these days, create their own wedding vows that will signify the type of relationship they have and how their roles are not defined about who will obey who.

2. Parents and honoring them. Christian ceremonies have opted to borrow the Jewish tradition of the groom entering with his parents, and the bride entering with her own parents. This tradition, although just borrowed, signifies the importance of both parents and their contribution to the lives of their children.

3. Escorting the bride. These days, brides can walk alone or with another person that played a significant importance to her regardless of gender. If the father is unavailable or if it is a second marriage, the bride can walk by herself. A bride deciding to walk by herself even though the parents are there signifies independence, which most brides feel like doing. However, brides who want other escorts beside from the father can choose from her sibling, mother, grandmother, grandfather, her son, or a very close friend or relative.

4. The bridal party. Couples have now the alternative of choosing whoever they want to be part of their bridal party. The bride can invite her male best friend to be her man of honor while the groom can even make her female pal to be his best gal. And it also does not matter if the numbers in the bridal party is not even. There can be more bridesmaids than groomsmen or there can be more groomsmen than the bridesmaids. But it is necessary though to provide them with just the right numbers of unique groomsmen gifts and beautiful bridal jewelry gifts.

5. The bridal dress. The bride can wear any type of dress that will make her feel and look beautiful. Although most brides still opt to wearing a white wedding gown. But a lot of brides these days, choose to wear unique gowns. Some brides choose to wear different shades of wedding dresses, but a lot of them wear a white dress with an accent of different colors to make their gowns and alluring wedding jewelry unique.
