Ideas for a Unique Wedding Cake

Unconventional weddings and theme weddings have become quite popular among couples. Some choose to totally recreate a period in history, fly their guests to a remote location, have unconventional decor complete with presentations or dance numbers, etc. However, those who are more traditional, and aren’t too comfortable with going “all out”, but still want to add personality to their wedding can do so by adding little touches here and there. Choosing an unconventional menu is one example, and another is to choose to have a unique wedding cake.

Traditional wedding cakes have at least three tiers, but unique wedding cakes don’t really follow any rules. To those who don’t want to deviate too much from tradition, having a three or more tiered cake is an option, but icing it differently can be one way to make it unique. Some cake makers specialize in creative icing or creative cakes, and you’ll be surprised at what they can do! The icing can follow the color scheme of the wedding or it can have a theme of its own. I’ve seen a wedding cake whose topper was the Corpse Bride and Jack the Pumpkin King!

If you’d like to get really creative and don’t care for tiers, you can ask the cake maker to create a landscape cake or a cake that is three dimensional and shows a scene of your choice. Thought it wasn’t for a wedding, I’ve seen an Alice and Wonderland cake complete with a giant red mushroom, a miniature Alice, roses, and a forest. The point is that cakes like these can be done, and allow you to get really creative. Just remember that it does take a while so you have to decide and order way in advance.

When going for a unique wedding cake, remember to consider other options for the cake itself. Most people choose a pound cake or chocolate cake because this is something everyone will eat. However, having an ice cream cake or a cake that normally isn’t used as a wedding cake are also viable options. Think about what you love eating, you might find your answers there!

Finally, if you’re still unsure about how to make it a unique wedding cake and you’re afraid you’ll regret going for anything too crazy, why not just get unique toppers that you can keep as souvenirs? This will help you always remember your wedding and it adds a very subtle but special touch.

A word of warning: Those who are generally uncomfortable about shaking things up will probably regret doing so. If anything feels off to you, don’t do it. You don’t want to look back at your wedding and cringe!
