Groomsmen Basics

Many men are called.few are worthy. Nope, this isn’t the army or marines, it’s the duty that every bro gets eventually – the call the be groomsmen! At some point or another, you’ll be called to become a groomsman or even best man for a close friend. Sometimes it’s a family member, high school buddy, frat buddy or some other friend who’s getting married and they asked you to be a groomsman. Being called to be a groomsman is an honor. Many grooms or couples put together a list of friends they would like to become their groomsmen, and they eventually have to whittle down that list to a few. If you’re one of the lucky ones called to be one of them, congratulations! However, you may be confused as to what you’re supposed to do. Well, here is a quick guide to some groomsmen basics for the first-time groomsman.

First, if you don’t think you can attend the wedding or the pre-wedding events (like engagement parties, dinners, rehearsals and bachelor party) you may want to tell the couple and let them know it’s ok if they choose someone else. Most couples prefer that their wedding party will be complete with all the wedding activities and it’s only polite to let them know if you will be missing any of them and if they prefer someone else that can come to all those events. Next, you should also know the important dates of all these events. Make sure you show up on time and ask the couple if they need any help. You should also be sure to make time for things like fittings and rehearsals. The fittings for the tux are very important because you want to ensure you look your very best on the wedding day. The rehearsals are a must because there are so many details that must be worked out before the wedding day and you don’t want to miss your queue.

Perhaps one €duty€ that all of the groomsmen are looking forward to is the bachelor’s party. The best man usually takes the lead on this one, but you should ask him if he needs help. If you know a good venue or company for the party, you should volunteer the information. Help out with preparations and anything else that may be needed for the party.

On the day of the wedding, groomsmen should be prepared for anything, however they should also take the time to relax and enjoy themselves!
