Getting to Know Your Wedding Rings

The most common metals which have been utilised to produce wedding rings are gold, platinum and palladium. Now, contemporary wedding rings are made from other materials like silver, titanium, steel and even wood for eco-friendly rings.
Gold is the most commonly used metal in making jewelries due to its value, color and shine which signify wealth and abundance. Gold wedding rings may either be yellow gold ( the classic variation) and white gold (gold mixed with other white metals like silver or platinum)

Silver is the second in popularity to gold which people prefer as the material in their wedding rings because of its beauty. The cost of silver wedding rings is comparatively lower than other rings. One drawback in a silver wedding ring is that it gets thin due to deterioration and is prone to scratches and therefore may not be suitable for daily wearing. This metal also reacts with human sweat that creates black discoloration to the ring but it can be removed through proper polishing.

Stainless Steel is another affordable alternative material in making wedding rings. This material is weighty and also shows scratch signs easily. One advantage, however, is that it resists rust formation, thus can be worn even during outdoor or water-related activities.

Tungsten is a hard metal also used in making wedding rings. It is a scratch-free metal that even Platinum cannot imprint a scratch on.

Platinum wedding rings is the most expensive of all. An elegant and stylish wedding ring which is symbol of royalty due to its pristine white color and glossiness. In addition, platinum is durable, hard-wearing and long lasting.

Titanium is another hard metal, which like Platinum is also corrosion resistant. It is hypoallergenic in addition to being a beautiful and practical choice for a wedding ring.

Palladium must not be confused with Platinum. But both being white metals, it is sometimes not easily distinguishable at first look. Palladium is also a hard metal but less expensive than platinum. Although only a few rings are made with palladium as the metal is also rarely found.

Zirconium is also another material in making wedding rings. When subjected to heat, a black ceramic surface with silky quality is formed. This surface is called Zirconia. Zirconium Wedding rings are beautiful and may come as matte or with highly polished finishes in either black or silver or combination of both colors. Such rings are hard wearing and durable.

Woods are also used in making wedding rings. Such ring are eco-friendly alternatives to rings made with metals.

There are also wedding rings with stones. Diamond wedding rings are the most expensive. But there are cheaper alternatives crafted from semi-precious stones and crystals.
