Just because you might be savvy in the ways of finding cheap travel deals, including cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages, that is no excuse for committing major travel fashion faux pas.
The following are fashions to be avoided while living out of a suitcase, according to Smarter Travel:
€ Wearing socks with sandals is considered a major fashion violation. If you want to keep your feet warm wear closed toe shoes with socks.
€ Fanny packs identify wearers as tourists and can bring visitors to the attention of thieves. Instead of packing all of your valuables around you waist, consider buying a theft proof bag, carrying your wallet in your front pocket, or using a cross body bag. All of these provide better pickpocket protection without identifying you as a fashion dead tourist.
€ Save (as in wait to wear) souvenir shirts until you get home. Alternatively buy a good looking shirt that will remind you of the place you purchased it rather than a boring souvenir shirt that only has the name of a city ironed onto it.
€ Nothing makes an American tourist in another country stand out more than by wearing bright white sneakers. In most out countries, sneakers are only worn when working out; not when dining or touring.
€ Tracksuits do not look good in most settings. There is a distinct difference between dressing for comfort and looking like a slob. Keep your tracksuits for work outs.
€ Wearing a large camera around your neck alerts thieves that you are carrying valuables and identifies you as a stereotypical tourist.
€ Crocs tend to be universally mocked and not particularly comfortable to wear on extended walks.
€ Oversized daypacks make you stand out and can result in you hitting unsuspecting nearby people, particularly in small spaces such as subways and elevators. By wearing something more streamlined, your back will thank you as well.
€ Rival jerseys and hats are the last things you want to wear to a city you are visiting. Flaunting rival apparel at your vacation destination marks you as an outsider. Wear something neutral so that you do not immediately antagonize everyone around you.
€ Indecent clothing worn on flights has resulted in passengers being escorted off planes at their departure points. Some travelers booted off flights have shown too much cleavage or worn saggy pants that others find offensive. Smart fliers wear clothes that they would not be embarrassed to wear in front of their grandparents.
