Where to Save and Where to Splurge on Your Wedding Day

The organisation leading up to your wedding day can be very stressful. With so many aspects to consider, a wedding can be very costly. There are always opportunities to save money on your big day, but there are certainly some aspects that are worth spending a little extra on, so here are our top tips!
Splurge on your dress
Having the wedding gown of your dreams is very important. Even though you will only wear it once, memories will be forever stored in it. You don’t want your dress to be flimsy, made of poor material or not fit you right, so it is worth spending a bit extra on the dress. It’s your special day and you’re one of the stars of the show so why not splurge on your hair, makeup and shoes too!
If you’re not feeling confident or beautiful on your big day, you may not enjoy it as much as you could have. Bridal shops and their staff provide personal assistance so you can find your perfect dress, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be the most expensive one.
Save on your cake
An excellent place to save some cash is to your wedding cake. Having a large, multiple tiered cakes is usually something on every bride’s list, but can take up quite a chunk of your budget. Consider having just one or two tiers of real cake, and then the rest polystyrene – but still iced. Do remember which ones aren’t real though to avoid any embarrassment on the day!
Splurge on your photographer
The photographer you choose is going to be responsible for documenting every little aspect of your day. You want someone who is reliable and, more importantly, excellent at what they do. Check out their portfolios or go with recommendations from people you trust. It’s worth forking out a bit of extra money for a professional, rather than a friend who’s offered to do it for free.
Save on table decorations
Make you’re own! You don’t need to pay for expensive decorations or for wedding favours, instead do some arts and crafts. Creating your own decorations can save you money while also adding that extra personal feel to your wedding. There is plenty of DIY wedding information online and in magazines.
Splurge on the food
Hungry guests mean unhappy guests, which could later result in no guests at all! For day guests, provide them canap©s during waiting times and then fill them up with a full, hearty meal for the wedding breakfast. For evening guests, there are buffet options, hog roasts and barbecues, all of which are excellent ways you can save on food, but give your guests something tasty and fulfilling.
Save on your flowers
A top tip is to choose flowers that are in season. This will save you money by not having to have them shipped in from another country. You could even consider reusing your flowers. Bouquets that decorated the ceremony could be used as decor in the tables or similar at the reception.
And lastly, ensure you keep track of all your expenditure on a budget worksheet. If it turns out you’ve cut back considerably on some things, you may be able to splurge on even more aspects!
