Celebrities are used to getting what they want, when they want it, whether it’s a suite at one of the best hotels in Las Vegas, a low-fat soy mochaccino, or the number of a good plastic surgeon. So it goes without saying that when the time comes for them to get married, they don’t want to wait around. They want the ceremony and they want it now! It’s this reason that so many celebrities choose to get married in Vegas – and why many regrets it afterwards!
Britney Spears
Britney’s first wedding to high-school sweetheart Jason Alexander was also her shortest, lasting a mere 55 hours. Jason later spilled the beans to a British newspaper and claimed that Britney was the one who proposed to him while they were relaxing in the suite of one of the best hotels in Las Vegas. Next day, the couple left the comfort of their suite to visit the Little White Wedding Chapel where they were married. All hell broke loose the next day when Britney’s family found out, and it was her brother’s legal team that sorted out the dissolution of the marriage. Britney now claims the wedding was actually a joke that went too far, but whether or not she had genuine feelings for Jason Alexander we’ll never know.
Peaches Geldof
When 19-year-old Peaches Geldof married in Las Vegas, her father Bob Geldof was said to have been furious. The fifteen-minute ceremony had just one witness and Peaches is said to have informed her father just two hours before the event. Like Britney, Peaches wed Chester French in the Little White Wedding Chapel, but what was to make the wedding even more shocking was the fact that Peaches had a boyfriend back at home, Horrors front-man Faris Badwan. Peaches ultimately sorted out her first wedding with a quickie divorce – but according to rumours the star, now aged 21, is set to marry again.
Angelina Jolie
Way before Brangelina and their brood were a regular fixture in our gossip magazines, Angelina Jolie was known for her crazy relationship with Billy Bob Thornton. The couple’s bizarre antics included wearing vials of each other’s blood around their necks and using knifes. So when the couple decided to marry, it was surprising that they shunned a theme wedding at one of the best hotels in Las Vegas for a slightly more sedate affair at the Little Church of the West. However, the wedding was anything but ordinary – Angelina had Billy Bob’s name tattooed on her arm and the couple wed in blue jeans.
Ross and Rachel
It has to be said that our favourite celebrity wedding in Vegas was the wedding that Ross and Rachel had in Friends. We loved the part of the episode where they were playing card games and betting on pistachio nuts at one of the best hotels in Las Vegas, while Ross had cat whiskers drawn on his face. Okay, so they may only be characters in a TV show but it’s nice to see a couple on the A-list that finally beat the Vegas curse and are still happily married! And who can forget the moment they drunkenly left the venue and Ross turned to Rachel and said “Well, hello Mrs Ross”, and she replied “Well, hello Mr Rachel”.
